While in architecture considering issues of sustainability have already become a significant value, the textile degree programs are starting to follow.
Simonetta Carbonaro (www.realise.de), professor at the Boras University (www.hb.se) as well as the Domus Academy (www.domusacademy.com) in Milan, is paying special attention to the change of values within society and the resulting demands the customer has towards a certain product. Sass Brown (www.ecofashiontalk.com), director of the FIT in Florence and author of the book „Ecofashion", has a stronger focus on management of processes and the marketing of sustainable fashion. At the London College of Fashion one puts emphasis on smart textiles and fashion innovations (www.fashion.arts.ac.uk). In Germany more and more colleges are picking up the subject for their studies. The international fashion school ESMOD (www.esmod.de) just recently announced that after being awarded state recognition this summer, they are starting a master program „Sustainability in Fashion" in the fall. The focus of the courses will be on economic and creative as well as industrial and scientific aspects of sustainable fashion. |
